CLIMATE ACTION AWARENESS CAMPAIGN
As of February 26, 2025, Bill C-226, known as the National Strategy Respecting Environmental Racism and Environmental Justice Act, has received Royal Assent and is now law. This legislation mandates the development of a national strategy to assess, prevent, and address environmental racism, aiming to advance environmental justice in Canada.
OPEN PARLIAMENT
The Climate Action Awareness Campaign, scheduled for March 3 to 16, 2025, aligns with the objectives of Bill C-226 by focusing on climate change adaptation and mitigation, particularly within Black, Indigenous, and other racialized communities in Canada. This 14-day social media event will utilize paid promotions on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to raise awareness about climate change challenges and solutions.
By supporting this campaign, participants contribute to the broader efforts outlined in Bill C-226, which emphasizes the importance of community engagement and the development of strategies to address environmental racism. The campaign’s focus on racialized communities directly supports the bill’s mandate to advance environmental justice.
According to the Chair of the Black Canadian Caucus of Black Parliamentarians and other MPs, “this bill is commendable as it aims to address racial discrimination in respect of environmental policy-making”. More information about the bill can be found at the following links:
