Sustainability on My Mind: Food as Medicine Workshop Series
The Sustainable Community Aid Network (SCAN) is proud to continue its commitment to underserved communities with a special wellness event:
The Food as Medicine Workshop Series, part of the “Sustainability on My Mind” program.
About the Program: Sustainability on My Mind
Led by SCAN, a Canadian non-profit championing sustainable development and community care, Sustainability on My Mind empowers underserved and visible minority communities through accessible, hands-on learning.
This program is more than just educational—it’s about connection, empowerment, and practical self-sufficiency. By offering tools and knowledge that cost little to nothing, SCAN helps participants build healthier lifestyles while addressing systemic health inequities. It’s a safe and fun space to engage with wellness and sustainability in meaningful ways.
Introducing: The Food as Medicine Workshop
The idea that food can be powerful medicine has been embraced by cultures worldwide for centuries. Now, with modern science backing ancient wisdom, this approach is gaining momentum—especially for its potential in preventing and managing chronic illness through simple, everyday choices.
This workshop series shines a light on how whole, minimally processed foods—like fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains—can improve health outcomes and quality of life.
Why Food as Medicine?
- Prevent Disease: Improve resilience and reduce the risk of chronic illness
- Manage Conditions: Use food to help control symptoms of existing health issues
- Enhance Well-being: Boost energy, immunity, and mental clarity with nutritious meals
