Malton Residents Learn to Make Eco-Friendly Foaming Soap in DIY Workshop

On February 23, 2023, the Sustainable Community Aid Network (SCAN) hosted its fourth Sustainability on My Mind workshop in Malton, Mississauga, focused on making Moisturizing Foaming Soap using eco-friendly, low-cost ingredients.

This workshop was part of an ongoing eight-part series aimed at teaching residents in low-income neighbourhoods practical and sustainable lifestyle strategies. The Sustainability on My Mind program empowers participants with simple skills they can implement independently to reduce waste and promote healthier living. SCAN has partnered with local volunteers in Malton to help deliver these workshops effectively and ensure strong community participation.

A Hands-On Experience with Lasting Impact

Participants learned how to create their own personal care products using easily accessible, natural ingredients. The session provided step-by-step guidance on making moisturizing foaming soap—a sustainable alternative to commercial products that often contain harsh chemicals or come in non-recyclable packaging.

Each participant received a take-home toolkit and all the necessary ingredients used during the session so they could continue making the soap at home and share the knowledge with family and friends.
