SCAN Collaborating with Wellfort for Better Smiles
Dental Health Awareness & Support Workshop
📅Thursday, July 10, 2025 | 🕓 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Location: Four Corners Health Centre: 7205 Goreway Dr, Mississauga ON L4T 2T9
Why It Matters
Oral health is a critical part of general health, yet poor dental care is often linked to serious health issues like diabetes, heart disease, and low self-esteem—especially in underserved populations. By working together, SCAN and Wellfort seek to improve dental health outcomes for low-income seniors, newcomer families, and youth in marginalized communities through accessible education and support.
Supporting Seniors
Seniors attending the workshop will receive help applying to the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP), a government-funded program that provides free routine dental services to eligible low-income seniors. Along with application assistance, seniors can take advantage of free dental hygiene days, which include check-ups and oral care kits.
Requirement:
To qualify for OSDCP, seniors must be 65 years or older, reside in Ontario, and have a net income at or below $25,000 for singles or $41,500 for couples. They must not have other dental insurance coverage except for the federal Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP). Documentation such as a Social Insurance Number and the most recent tax return is required; if these are unavailable, a guarantor from a specified profession may sign on their behalf. This workshop aims to make dental care accessible and stress-free for seniors.

Empowering Youth and Families
For children and youth under 17, SCAN and Wellfort will guide families through accessing free dental care services offered by the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program. This government-funded initiative provides free routine, preventive, and emergency dental care to children and youth from low-income households.
The workshop will also include family-oriented sessions focusing on improving oral hygiene habits and reducing sugar consumption to promote long-term health. Emergency dental services are available through HSO’s Emergency and Essential Services Program for urgent cases, with eligibility requiring screening and proof of financial hardship.
Requirement:
Youth under 17 that fall under low-income households.
