Project Overview
Sustainability on My Mind – Seniors Edition (Brampton South) is an expansion of SCAN’s successful seniors program, previously implemented in Malton, Mississauga under New Horizon Seniors Program (NHSP) funding. The initiative introduces hands-on sustainable living and wellness workshops to a new community.

Community Need
Brampton South is home to over 132,000 residents, with 14% aged 65+. Seniors face:
- Lower average income and higher economic vulnerability
- Barriers to healthy food, transportation, and paid programs
- Cultural and language barriers due to high diversity (75% visible minorities, 50% immigrants)
- Increased risk of social isolation
Project Focus
“Sustainability on My Mind – Senior Edition” targets senior citizens in Brampton South, particularly those in care homes. The program will be facilitated by seniors, two staff members, and a community group overseeing senior activities. Workshops, with an anticipated class size of 20-25 seniors, will run for three hours on Monday mornings each month. The goal is to engage a minimum of 140 seniors.
